A 40-year-old office worker came to MediCentre Bolton with chronic lower back pain recovery needs due to lower back pain that wouldn’t go away. It had been going on for a few months. Every day, the patient spent a lot of time sitting at a desk, which made their balance worse and put more stress on their lower back. The pain got worse over time, getting in the way of daily tasks, work, and general quality of life. The person in pain was looking for a long-term, non-invasive way to deal with and lessen the pain as part of their chronic lower back pain recovery journey.

The Problem

The person had been having lower back pain for a long time, which got worse over time. At first, the pain was mild and easy to deal with, but over time, it got worse and happened more often. Simple things like sitting for long amounts of time, bending forward, or lifting light things started to hurt. The patient also said they felt stiff in the morning and after being still for a long time.

The constant pain made it hard to focus at work and limited my physical exercise, which made me angry and less confident in my ability to move. At this point, the patient chose to get professional physiotherapy help to begin their chronic lower back pain recovery journey and get to the bottom of the problem instead of just taking painkillers for a short time.

Symptoms and Signs

  • dull pain in the lower back that won’t go away
  • Pain and stiffness after sitting for a long time
  • Pain when you lift, bend, or twist
  • Less movement and flexibility
  • Pain while sleeping and when you wake up in the morning
  • Tiredness and tightness in the muscles around the area

These signs were consistent with mechanical lower back pain that is often caused by sitting for long periods of time, having bad posture, and not having strong core muscles.

Assessment & Diagnosis

Chronic Lower Back Pain Recovery

At the MediCentre Bolton, a full physiotherapy check was done. As part of this, the person’s balance, range of motion, and the strength of their core and supporting muscles were all checked. Part of the evaluation also looked at the patient’s daily routine, how they work, and how they move.
Low back pain that wouldn’t go away was found to be mostly caused by bad posture, sitting for long amounts of time, and muscle imbalances. As long as there were no big health problems that needed surgery or medical attention, physiotherapy was a good choice for treatment and supported their chronic lower back pain recovery journey.

Treatment Plan

A specific physiotherapy plan was made to help with the pain, make it easier to move, and figure out what was wrong. Manual therapy was used as part of the treatment plan to loosen up tense muscles and improve joint mobility. Working out the core was added to support the spine and make things more stable. The patient was taught techniques to help them keep their bodies in the right position while they sat and did other daily jobs, supporting their chronic lower back pain recovery.

Some people also said that stretching could help loosen up tight muscle groups. Along with a workout plan to follow at home, the patient was able to keep making progress even when they weren’t at the center. This helped with their long-term recovery.

Recovery Process

The person saw a physiotherapist regularly and always did the exercises that were suggested as part of their chronic lower back pain recovery. The goal of the first part of treatment was to ease the pain and make it easy to do simple things. The person went on to functional and strengthening exercises as their symptoms got better.

There were changes to the treatment plan made by the teacher based on how things were going. It helped the patient a lot to understand how his or her posture, movement patterns, and living choices were making things worse. The patient’s pain, movement, and general ability to move around all got better over the course of a few weeks.

Results

  • In three to four weeks, the pain went down a lot.
  • Straighter back and better balance
  • A wider range of motion and greater flexibility
  • Able to sit for longer periods of time without getting tired
  • More comfort at work and in daily life
  • There is no need for medicine or painful procedures.

 Outcome

After the recovery program was over, the person was able to do normal daily things without any pain. The patient can now better manage their symptoms and lower their risk of return because they are stronger, more aware of their posture, and have a clear exercise plan to follow at home, supporting their chronic lower back pain recovery.
This case shows how well-planned physiotherapy can help people with long-term lower back pain get better by treating both the signs and the causes.
